I’m jumping on the wagon and writing our love story… mainly because I think it’s cute and there are only 18 days until I’m a Mrs.!
Before I met J I was casually dating someone for maybe a month. We quit seeing each other, and I ended up excited to be single and ready to go on first dates and hang out with my girlfriends, and everything was going to be fun and casual.
I work in a small office, myself and two ladies who are much older than I am. I came in to work one day and in a clearly dramatic fashion announced that I could not seem to find a decent man to date, therefore I was not going to pick the next man I dated. I wanted them to find one for me, as they MUST be a better judge of character than I am. (I’ve got some reeeeeal winners in my past, let me tell you.) They laughed and said they would think about it. I didn’t think anything would come of it, and went on with life, wining and dining with my girls, and dancing until last call every Saturday night. Life was goooood!
One day, Pam said to me, “I have a boy for you to date!” The initial questions followed: “Does he have a job? YES! Does he live with his parents? NO! Does he have a car? YES! Is he a criminal? NO!” This one seemed to be first date worthy, so I agreed to meet him. What I didn’t know was that he was the UPS driver at our office.
On one DREARY January morning when I was looking less than adorable (I have a problem snoozing my alarm, okay?) I was helping someone else at their desk, when J walked in. I was sitting behind him on the other side of a 4’x4’ glass window. He walked to the front counter where Pam just couldn’t contain her giddiness at getting to tell him all about me, as she thought I was out of the office (Remember, I wasn’t at MY desk!).
The conversation went something like this:
“Oh, J! You’re here! I’ve got the perfect girl for you! She’s so cute and funny, and I think you two would hit it off so great! Her name is Madi, and she’s not in here right now, but you have to come back and meet her!” At this point I am neon red, and think I might explode… and to top it all off, I don’t even look cute! I grab the only thing I can get my hands on, a manila file folder, open it up and hide behind it. I was PRAYING the hardest I’ve ever prayed that he didn’t know that it was ME she was talking about. Linda, the other lady in our office finally piped in and said, “PAM! What are you doing?! She’s sitting RIGHT THERE!”
I thought I was going to pass out. J and Pam turn around to look directly at me, trying to hide behind a file folder, the color of red Kool-Aid. J smiled and walked through the door to the office, and my heart stopped.
