J held out his hand to shake mine, and introduced himself. I stuttered through an official introduction. “I have to go, but I’ll see you later?” Uhhh… “Ok”. I plopped back in my chair and tried to focus on breathing. He left the office with a wave and goodbye to Pam, and it was over.
“PAM, HOW COULD YOU DO THAT?!” I was laughing and crying at the same time. I seem to be Murphy’s Law sometimes, I’m tellin’ ya. She apologized profusely, and of course I wasn’t mad, just… embarrassed beyond belief. Before J could come back in to check for any outgoing packages at our office, I had to leave to go help my boss outside of the office. Pam
stopped me on my way out and says, “What if he asks for your number? What do you want me to do?” “If he asks for it, give it to him, but don’t offer it.”
When I got back to work that afternoon, J had come and gone… and had my phone number.
Now, all I had to do was sit and wait.
The next day J delivered again. He was blushing and looked nervous when he walked in. He chatted for a couple seconds and I tried to play it cool (which translates into silence and looking away). I thought he might reference calling me, or maybe ask ME for my number… but no. He just walked out of the office without any indication of what might happen next.
I just knew he wasn’t going to call. I was sad… I mean, was I not pretty enough for the hot UPS driver? I was sure that he got hit on by other customers; surely I wasn’t the best looking pick he had.
8 days later I got a text message while I was getting my hair done. “Hey Madi!!! It’s J, the
UPS driver. What’s up?”
Seriously, “the UPS driver”… Did he think I had 3,000 J’s texting me a day? Apparently the reason he waited so long was to try and ask me in person, but that never worked out. He asked me to dinner the next Saturday, January 21, 2012.
Our first date was fantastic. He waited until the end of our THIRD date to kiss me (I thought I was going to explode waiting for it, and I ended up with a terrible cold that night, but he kissed me anyway!), and on February 4th he cooked me dinner and asked me to be his girlfriend. I’ve never looked back
I knew from very early on that he wasn’t like other guys I had dated. I also knew that he was one of the good ones and I should keep him around.
He’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I can’t wait to be his wife.
