Today for Blog Every Day In May, the prompt is: Have you ever been on a road trip? Where did you go?
I’ve been on more road trips than I can count. Honestly, I can’t even remember when we started going, I just know we always go.
When I was in elementary school the day school let out, my mom would pick us up with the van already loaded and my grandparents in the car and we would head to Destin, FL. We’d spend a week in a condo on the beach and we always had the best time. Those were some of my favorite trips.
Before I can remember, I see pictures where we drove to AZ to pick up my parent’s best friend and then on to California to Disney Land
We drove to Disney World with family friends, and this was our first experience with CB radios… before we were old enough to watch Joy Ride. Candy Cane, this is Rusty Nail… anyone?
When my Papa found out he had cancer he bought a motor home and my brother and I spent almost every school break driving around the country with them. We had snowball fights in Taos, NM, Chris rolled down a hill into cactus in Nevada, we rode horses and shot fireworks off Mt. Rushmore at 4th of July, we saw a tornado in Iowa, drove to Breckenridge to ski, and made many many trips to the beach. I’m sure there are more destinations that I’m forgetting. Somewhere, on some trip, in some deserted place, we stumbled into a Native American giant pow wow and hung out there for awhile.
I’ve driven to Dallas approx 1 million times, went with family, by myself, with friends, and every combination of the two.
I drove to Chicago with two girlfriends the summer after my senior year of high school. I’ve driven to Colorado for work, and church camps, and for vacations.
I’ve driven to New Orleans and Memphis, and somewhere on the East side of Florida, that I can’t remember except the shell beaches hurt my feet, and back and forth to Destin many, many, many times.
Jake and I have made the trip to Kansas City to see the Chiefs play 3 times now, and we’ll be back this year for more!
I’ve been fortunate enough to see a lot of this big country by car, and one of my biggest goals is to drive Route 66 in it’s entirety and see everything along the way.
Sorry there aren’t a plethora of great pics on this one, but I didn’t have time to grab them all from my parents.
