I’m sure some of you have seen on Instagram that I’ve been less than sprightly on my feet the last couple weeks.
Two weeks ago I was playing tennis with some friends, just a casual game, nothing intense or competitive, and I noticed my knee start hurting… REALLY bad. I kept playing, duh, and woke up the next morning barely able to walk.
I thought… Eh, I just worked hard, and my body isn’t used to tennis yet… I’ll rest a couple days and I’ll be good as new. So I played tennis a couple more times, I gimped along, and you know… It didn’t get better. It got worse.
Last Monday, I finally broke down and went to the doctor. They did X-Rays, and an exam, then referred me to a physical therapist for my “sprained lateral meniscus”, which for those of us who aren’t familiar with that… it’s the ligament that runs along the outside edge of your kneecap.
I went to my appointments dutifully, got a very beautiful knee brace, and hobbled through life. I’m still in physical therapy, but due to the way it’s acting, they think I have a tear in my meniscus. Unfortunately the only way to tell for sure is to get an MRI, so I’ve been waiting on the hospital on that one for 4 days now. I did get a call this morning that I’m going in tomorrow morning for the MRI, so we’ll know 100% whether or not it’s torn.
I’m frustrated, because I’m on 100% activity restriction *eye roll* and I have to walk with a crutch. I’m worried about my exercising before our vacation this fall, but I’m going to get my eating under control, count my calories on My Fitness Pal (you should find me if you’re on there! My username is AndSoIDid), and I’m going to do arm/ab exercises. I’ve thought about jumping into Planet Fitness for the month to use their row machine, so I can get cardio in, but we’ll see how much time I have after PT and energy to do that.
There’s an update on the knee, and I’m sure you’ll see at least one ridiculous picture from me, on crutches, at a bachelorette party this weekend. Fabulous, right?
