Writing about the wedding has put me into a writing funk this week. I wasn’t sure what there was to say about it, and it all went so fast that I didn’t know what to think.
I’ve made it no secret that I wanted to elope and under no circumstances wanted to have a wedding, but that didn’t work out… so a wedding we had.
I knew that regardless of what happened, if we got married the day was a success because that’s the whole goal… right?!
I woke up early at a 12 on the 1-10 anxiety scale, ate some oatmeal, had my coffee and wondered what the hell we were doing having a big event like this.
We got ready, went to help set up the reception venue, and did 1,000 other errands… by the time I got to get my hair done at 3:30, I was at a 20 on the anxiety scale. My hands and feet were numb, and I was having a hard time breathing. I mostly tried to stay quiet.
We were getting ready at my bridesmaid’s house that lived closest to the chapel. We had to fix my bouquet (I’ve never been more angry in my life at a florist) and get ourselves ready. I was the first one ready, and at 5:55 I was locked, loaded, and ready to get to the chapel.
One bridesmaid wasn’t ready. For 10 more minutes. Then that bridesmaid lost the car keys, another 3 minutes. Now, 13 minutes may not seem like much time, but we had the chapel at 6:00 to get there, and the ceremony started at 6:30. I had to get my dress and accoutrements on, have my sorority pinning, and get down the aisle by 6:30.
So I got to the chapel at 6:17, and by God, I walked down that aisle at 6:30.
The minute the doors opened, it was all ok. No more anxiety, no more numb hands and feet, no more panic. I was marrying the man of my dreams. Nothing could have ruined that. It didn’t matter anymore that I didn’t want a wedding, that 200 people were looking at ME, or if a bomb had gone off.
A bomb didn’t go off, but we did tie the knot (literally, y’all) and I couldn’t be happier. Here are some pictures. More to come once I get them from the photog and get back from Hawaii!
